PROGRAM DETAILS

The program is a two year commitment.   Eight participants will be selected, one in each of the following key creative roles: Writer, Producer, Director, Art Director / Production Designer, Animation Director, Storyboard Supervisor, Editor and Composer.   Over the course of the two years, the team will complete their short film / demo / pilot for September 2023, which will receive a premiere screening at Spark Animation Festival in October 2023.  During the course of production, they will receive mentorship and training workshops, including courses in pitching and presenting themselves and/or their projects, and mentorship in social media and marketing.  The eight participants selected will jointly own their film/demo/pilot.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

- Must be individuals identifying as women or non-binary

- Must be either Canadian citizens or permanent residents

- Must be residents of Canada

- Women of diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous women, women of colour, women with disabilities, LGBTQ+2 women, and non-binary individuals are encouraged to apply.

How to Apply?

Writers (Short Film) or Content Creators (Animated Series)

ACE will  be producing a film or non-broadcast demo, as applicable.

Writers

Writers who would like to submit a concept for a short film with a maximum length of 5 minutes should submit a one-page letter of intent outlining why they want to participate in the program and why they would  be a strong candidate, a resume, writing portfolio (maximum 15 pages), a script or treatment for the project they would like to submit to the program, and two letters of reference.

OR

Content Creators

Content Creators who would like to submit an idea for an animated series should submit a one-page letter of intent outlining why they want to participate in the program and why they believe they would be a strong candidate, a resume, two letters of reference, a writing portfolio (optional) and a mini-bible or concept document no more than 5 pages in length, which includes:  

- Synopsis  (no more than one page.  A  paragraph is fine)

- Characters descriptions of your main characters (max 4 characters)

- A ‘world' description (especially if it is unique and important to your show) 

- 3 ’springboards’, 1 to 3  sentences long, with show ideas that showcases how your characters relate to each other

- pictures/designs/photos (optional)

Producers

Producers should submit a one-page letter of intent outlining why they want to participate in the program and why they would be a strong candidate, a resume, and two letters of reference.

Directors

Directors should submit a one-page letter of intent outlining why they want to participate in the program and why they believe they would be a strong candidate, a resume, demo reel and/or portfolio, and two letters of reference.

Art Directors / Production Designers

Art Directors / Production Designers should submit a one-page letter of intent outlining why they want to participate in the program and why they believe they would be a strong candidate, a resume, a portfolio of their work, and two letters of reference.

Animation Directors

Animation Directors should submit a one-page letter of intent outlining why they want to participate in the program and  why they would be a strong candidate, a resume, a demo reel, and two letters of reference.

Storyboard Supervisors

Storyboard Supervisors should submit a one-page letter of intent outlining why they want to participate in the program and  why they would be a strong candidate, a resume, a demo reel or portfolio, and two letters of reference.
 

Editors

Editors  should submit a one-page letter of intent outlining why they want to participate in the program and why they would be a strong candidate, a resume, and two letters of reference.  Demo reel is optional.

Composers

Composers should submit a one-page letter of intent outlining why they want to participate in the program and why they would be a strong candidate, a resume, a demo reel, and two letters of reference.

Program Requirements

Program participants need to commit to participating for the duration of the program.  Please note, the program is designed to be done on a part-time basis, and it is understood that participants in the program will likely be balancing full-time jobs and families, alongside the program, and we make every effort to accommodate this.  Participants also need to commit to participating in social media efforts for the project and program, and speaking on several panels and/or participating in conferences and workshops set-up by the program.  

The Selection Process

Participants will be short-listed by a jury of industry professionals.   Short-listed candidates will then have an opportunity to attend a virtual workshop, prior to an pitching session to the jury, who will select the final participant for each category.   While we would like to thank everyone for their applications, only short-listed candidates will be contacted.
